Feng Shui
When I was first introduced to Feng Shui, I had no idea what to
expect. Some one had given me a chart to work from but to find
information which I could use with it was next to impossible. I tried
for a few months, but when my projects didn’t work out, I didn’t
ponder on them to find out why. When we moved from British Columbia to
Saskatchewan I started a new project in our new apartment.
I set out to find a book on Feng Shui namely from the library. There
were lots of books. The one I chose was a popular book. It had work
sheets and graph paper in it and different examples of how to do an
odd size room, the bedrooms, how to do bathrooms and kitchens. It also
showed how to calculate the correct direction for beds, sofas, dining
room tables and chairs as well as how to work with the furniture we
had at the time. Which, in our case was very old, torn and broken and
had plenty of mysterious stains from our two boys.
Next when we worked with the book and the chart we made, we found we
had most of the necessities for Feng Shui-ing our apartment. We didn’t
have much, a few chocolate gold coins, some crystals and a stuffed toy
red dragon from Wales. My husband was sceptical. He watched as I went
through a list of items we needed to do, and stuff our stuff into the
storage room which was used for everything but storage.
Finally when I thought I had placed everything in its right order, and
after having taken a toy compass and assessed where the furniture
should go, I declared the Feng Shui done. My husband commented that
there wasn’t much to be seen, there had been no improvement. I was
assuring my husband that changes would happen. We waited a few weeks
for the changes to occur, but when they did not, we looked at the book
again. We needed a fountain. With what little money we had, we bought
a fountain, and some wind chimes. Placing them in our apartment, we
waited again for things to change.
Another few weeks went by and still things did not improve, by this
time it had been three months and we were beginning to wonder if Feng
Shui actually worked. We went back to the library and got the book
out. Looking at it, we discovered we had to take out all our clutter.
We had a lot of clutter, not only in the bathroom, bedroom, living
room and kitchen, but in the hallway, we had pictures by the boys up
on one wall, another we had nothing but junk piled up. So we went
through every nook and cranny we could find and put everything we
weren’t using into the storage room. Finally after a week of packing
boxes or putting odd bits and pieces into the storage room, knowing we
would probably not see them again for a while, we were finished.
Next we looked at our furniture. What was it about our furniture that
was not good. We had sharp pointed furniture, not only was it
dangerous for our boys to be playing around with, but the sofa had
seen better days and the springs by now were poking through the
cushions. We decided to give up our side tables and the larger of our
sofas as well as one sofa chair. But it still didn’t solve the issue
of four people in a one bedroom apartment. With my husband only
working part-time, and me as a stay at home mom, we found ourselves in
a bit of a catch twenty-two situation.
With the new improvements of resolving our clutter dilemma as well as
our furniture ones, it still didn’t leave us any further ahead. But,
we waited. Finally, when we could not stand to wait any longer, our
apartment building had a two bedroom become available. It was only
slightly more than what we were paying for our one bedroom, but it was
something we could afford. We took it. Then, once we had moved, we
took a look at the Feng Shui of our new apartment and found that if we
did that first, we could then get rid of the clutter and see what
happened next.
This we did. We were surprised by the outcome of what happened next.
First my husband went on full time with the company he’d been working
for and had struggled with the work part-time for many months. Then he
was asked if he would take on more responsibilities and a fast track
management course. He readily agreed. My husband was encouraged and
attributed his recent successes with persistence. I told him it was
the Feng Shui that had helped. Next, my mother-in-law was getting rid
of her furniture. She’d had it in storage for nearly four years and
wasn’t going to use it. She’d mentioned giving it to the Salvation
Army but hoped we would take it upon being asked.
My mother-in-law was moving in with her boyfriend, so she didn’t need
to have her furniture. She’d been living with him on and off for
several years hence her stuff being in storage. While we felt like it
was Christmas and New Years sales all rolled into one, we picked out
the furniture we felt was going to be the best for us. We got a whole
new living room suite, complete with new coffee tables, television,
books, pots and pans as well as other items. We happily got rid of our
old furniture. We thought our improvements had come to a head, but
with lots more to come, we found ourselves enjoying our new furniture
for a few more months, while we got a new computer as well as other
improvements.
We couldn’t believe our good luck. Then when we thought things had
settled down, we found my husband had completed his fast track
management course. He was offered a promotion with a branch of the
company he worked for just north of Saskatoon. We moved with just two
weeks notice, found a place to live in while we stayed at the local
hotel. Suddenly we were prominent members of the community we had
moved to. Our lives were as if in a gold fish bowl, everyone wanted to
know who we were. It was difficult and very different.
I had Feng Shui’d our new apartment and almost immediately upon moving
in to an upper level condo, we moved to the ground floor of our condo
unit. We had a garden! Where as before all we had was a parking lot
the boys couldn’t even play in. It was exciting. Almost four years
later, we had managed to get to grips with Feng Shui. A friend of mine
in San Diego, whose husband had died recently decided to take it up.
Now she is a practitioner. I’ve thought about it, but only give advice
to friends and to my husband about improving his work environment. I’m
happy being a writer and a psychic. However, I am one for factual
evidence of things actually happening and need proof that
inconsequential things not necessarily of our world do exist. It has
been a journey of sorts, but most of all it has lent me an
understanding of my environment and the forces which govern our very
existence. I have seen some interesting and strange things, some of
them joyful and uplifting, others I have seen would scare anyone who
would step a foot wrong. But, I’ll continue with my Feng Shui, and
maybe one day I might consider taking it up professionally!
If you want to know more about Feng Shui (wind and water) here are
some quick tips. In the South place some candles to represent fire,
triangles and some light, a lamp is good, a fountain can be used for
the South as well. In the South East, place some roses, a picture is
good and some candles representing you and a loved one. In the West,
place a picture of a tiger, in the North West, find pictures of or
things of metal–silver is good. In the North, place pictures of water
falls, fish a turtle or a fish tank is good. In the North East, place
some wood or something green. If it’s a bedroom place the head of the
bed in the north. It will provide calmness and tranquillity. In the
East place a picture of a dragon, plants do well in this direction as
well as in the South. If you can place a bit of bamboo in the north or
in the bathroom to bring harmony to an otherwise missed location.
Keep the toilet lid down and the bathroom or toilet door closed at all
times. The good Feng Shui or Ch’i and luck you create no matter how
small will go down the drain literally and then you will have to start
all over again.
Best of all, consult a professional Feng Shui expert, they will have
the knowledge to do a house and or apartment. To me, Feng Shui is
about the flow of energy through the house and attracting good Ch’i
and letting it flow through my office as well as through our lives. To
get a placement for beds, sofas and other one hundred and one things
about Feng Shui you’ll need to know, get a book and read up about it
and find a good compass like a Feng Shui compass. I still have a lot
to learn, and have yet to learn about the ancient symbols and I Ching
on the compass. But because this is a journey, there’s always a
discovery to be made and something new around the corner. Recently I
enhanced my Feng Shui by using stones and crystals around my place. My
friends have done the same thing with their gardens or with their
houses. But, I truly believe there is something mysterious at work,
and if individuals are to take up Feng Shui to consider it seriously
to help with their everyday lives.
