Tarot readings, buying the pack and meditating on
the cards
For many years I have been reading tarot cards. In my last article,
I talked about how the tarot cards and the playing cards correspond
with each other. In this article I’ll endeavour to explain how
intuitive persons and people starting out can read the tarot cards.
The first step in reading tarot cards is getting the tarot card deck.
Finding a suitable one for individual use is the most important step
to actually reading the cards. Being comfortable with the tarot cards
is very important, as the imagery of the cards can scare and at times
intimidate, but if the reader is comfortable with the cards as they
are, then the querrant or the one having the reading, will feel
comfortable as well.
Tarot cards come in all shapes and sizes. They are available in
square, rectangle, circle and I have even seen triangle shaped.
Although I have circular and rectangular tarot cards, I felt more
comfortable with the shape and the size. The imagery of some I have, I
found fascinating, as some of my favourite are the round cards, called
mother earth cards. The other cards, a Toth deck was very different
from what I’d had previously. I’d had the Alex Crowley tarot deck
which made me feel extremely uncomfortable with the feel and energy of
them. I later learned he’d used unorthodox methods by which to present
his imagery, which went against my principles. I didn’t give them
away, usually when as a psychic I have used a tarot deck, I burn them,
because the energy of the cards has a powerful symbolic energy. I
haven’t used that particular tarot card deck since.
If you are new to doing tarot cards, the best suggestion is to get a
small book on the subject. There are plenty of books, but most tarot
decks come with a small how-to booklets on reading and powering up
your tarot deck. Most decks come with a small leaflet inside the deck
itself on the various meanings of the cards. But, the books and the
leaflets are mere guides and while they provide useful information,
the meaning of the cards vary with each reading. Make sure when you
buy a tarot deck you check the stores return policy. If you don’t like
the cards once you have opened them, you may need to return them and
find something else that is to your liking.
Once you have the tarot cards and books you need, look through the
book, read it from cover to cover to understand what it is that you
are getting into. Look through the tarot card deck and see what kind
of cards they are. The cards will probably feel smooth and slippery,
perhaps shiny. This of course is because they haven’t been handled,
but if there is some stickiness to them, or if you feel that they are
not the ones for you, wrap them up carefully, and take them back to
the store. Buying tarot cards is very much like trying on clothing and
seeing if it fits. They have to be right for the reader as working
with tarot cards is a very personal experience.
But, there is a method by which individuals can learn about the tarot
cards in a far more effective way. That is to meditate on them. Take
one card each day; look into the card and feel as if you are part of
the card and then meditate on the card. If the individual is an
intuitive person, then there won’t be any need to physically record
what is seen. Beware of doing this to the devil and to the fool there
maybe an experience more than expected, and in this case if you choose
to find out what is needed, go by what the leaflet says.
The books and the leaflets will suggest different types of readings
and the different ways they can be interpreted. But, only the reader
can interpret what is being said with in the cards. When I first
started reading tarot cards, I did a lot of readings. Not on anybody,
but just learning. The quickest way to learn the cards is to meditate
on them via the method I mentioned. There is also another method and
that is to put a card under a pillow at night and meditate that way.
Another method is to choose one card a day, and to see what the
meaning is in a book or in a leaflet, then, keeping in mind the
lessons for the day from the tarot card and what happens during the
day. I like to make notes when I do this, so that I can keep a record
of what goes on.
The more you touch your cards the more familiar and understanding of
them you become. If after a few weeks you have tried and tried as a
tarot card reader and get nothing don’t despair, the cards still don’t
mean anything to the user; put them away, and leave them alone. At
times, when tarot cards are used as a game, it can freak a few people
out. But, on the whole, prediction as always is open to interpretation
as there is always the unpredictable factor. So no matter how hard
people try to interpret choices in a card reading or try to find
predictions within the cards, there is always something new to learn
from different combinations. It’s being able to interpret the energy
and the story that goes with it.
